Ian Nagoski runs the Baltimore record store the True Vine, curates collections for the Dust to Digital label, and uses this series to share some of his personal musical ephiphanies in the form of ethnic 78s of yesteryear, selected over 20 odd years of collecting both in far and near locales. Long lost treasures from the exotic jungles, villages and deserts around the globe, as well as a few chestnuts that were merely buried in America's backyard. Info is sometimes scant (though as complete as possible), but the heavenly sounds of this series can transport you everyplace you need to go. This volume visits the neon-lime ladies of Kuala Lumpur. Lots of ballads in the style of Malaysia's Elvis, P. Ramlee, with just a little kugiran (aka Malay freakbeat) influence here & there. Ian says: Combining elements of traditional Malay music, Bollywood soundtracks, Arabic pop, French Yeh-Yeh girls and British beat sounds, Malaysian pop of the mid-60s to early 70s had moments of inspired, bubblegumy rapture. This album represents the swinginest fem-vox-led tracks from a giant group of original LPs and EPs from Malaysia's golden era of pop. Tracklisting: Unknown-Unknown, Unknown-Tops In Every Trade Soundtrack, Chen Fan Lan-Slave Of Love, Billie Tam-The Wilting Flowers, May lam-Too Little Time, Wong Oi Ming-I Have To Tell You, Chung Suh Lin-Love Is a One Way Traffic, Liu Yun-Always Arguing, Pao Na Na-Don't Leave Me, Sum Sum-Lover's Mountain, Pak Yun Sim-Unknown, Sum Sum-Misty Sunset, Jenny-Unknown, May Lam-I Wouldn't Want You Any More, Lea Yea Fang-Unknown, Unknown-To Marry By Order Of My Husband Soundtrack, Unknown-The Blind Man, Unknown-Warm Spring, Unknown-Unknown, Shyu Meei Ing-Unknown, Lily-If Only He Were Here, Unknown-Unknown, Judi Jim-Never Ending Love, Fang Chin-Unknown.
