In his mid-40s, Ito went to South Dakota & New Mexico to spend time with Native American tribes in the region & recorded & participated in several major dances/rituals. Upon returning to New York, he made a new drum from a deerskin that he got from an upscale restaurant, painted all his instruments, carved some new whistles, and recorded what turned out to be his last composition on a cassette recorder in his house. Comfortably spacious & always precise without being sterile, every Ito composition is a treat. Tracklisting: Axis Mundi, Quetzalcoatl.
