Tyler met Albert Ayler when he was 14 years old in Cleveland. He made his 1st appearance on a record with 'Spirits Rejoice', & left NYC because he thought the Ayler band was becoming commercialized (!). He kicked around Indiana & California before returning in time to take part in the 70s loft scene. Cello & vibes give this one some unusual grain, plus Tyler on an alto style that owes a lot to Pharoah Sanders. Henry Grimes, Ronald Jackson, Charles Moffett. Tracklisting: Strange Uhuru, Lacy's Out East, Three Spirits, Black Mysticism.
