Never released tapes from around Boston, upstate New York, & lower Manhattan that show the nascent loft jazz scene taking shape. Juma played on free jazz milestones like Archie Shepp's 'Attica Blues', Noah Howard's 'The Black Ark', Sonny Simmons' 'Manhattan Egos', and backing up the rhetoric of music having no boundaries, also played congas on more than one prominent stage/session with Jimi Hendrix. In the meantime, Juma ran a percussion-heavy collective that put on concerts, could jam for hours & took pride in the fact that they'd play with absolutely anybody. Frank Lowe's first recorded material, and other guests include Julius Hemphill, Charles Bobo Shaw, Phillip Wilson from the Art Ensemble.
