Beautiful, winged and full of springs, going without the 1st Rounders album will leave a hole in your life. Most Greenwich Village folkies took themselves way, way too seriously, thinking they were saving the world, bringing the purity of folk music of the people back to the people (who hadn't claimed to be missing it) etc. But Stampfel heard something in Harry Smith's anthology & old 78s that others seemed to miss- they were fun. Not to mention that Stampfel sang like a frog with a nitrous addiction and liked meth heads like his pal Steve Weber way better than hoity girls like Joanie Baez. Although Stampfel says that he wanted to be in the first folk band that didn't sound like an old record, the truth is he was in the first band that did. Tracklisting: Blues in the Bottle, Give the Fiddler a Dram, The Cuckoo, Euphoria, Long John, Hesitation Blues, Hey Hey Baby, Reuben's Train, Mister Spaceman, Moving Day, Better Things For You, Same Old Man, Hop High Ladies, Bound to Lose.
