Chicano Texan & Vietnam vet Gene Jaimez was injured in the war & recovered in Tokyo, playing with a band of army buddies. Here's the instro record he made when he came back home, a unique one that swipes some good tricks from jazz, psych & funk but doesn't really sit comfortably in any one genre. Every track smoulders, with intertwining lines rather than chunky riffs: tight & shiny jazz guitar, big warm dollops of electric bass, a few long & sinewy horn lines & moog accents. 'Rockin Rul' breaks out with amusing 'oriental' fifths, and seques suddenly into some total heavy prog. If this band were just German instead, this record would have been reissued six or seven times before now, and this one here would likely be twice the price. Tracklisting: Work Your Hand to the Bone, Journey of the Mind, Pleiku, Juan Tutri 10pm, Foot Stomper, Do La Dog, Melancolia, Going Home, Road to Nirvana, Rockin Rul.
