Madrid kids wanted their 60s beat bands exactly two ways: just like the Animals & just like Tom Jones. The Canarys (named because they originally formed in the Canary Islands) could do both at once, plus throw in a few moves they got from 'Hair', and so became huge hitmakers right out of the gate. Their musical apex hit about 1968. 'Get on your Knees' managed to work in an innuendo about blow jobs but also mention the power of prayer in the same song, and the flip, 'Trying So Hard' was a bursting fuzzbomb that began in an Animals mode & made it over the fence into full popsike. Leader/singer Teddy Bautista went on to be a music copyright executive. He was arrested in July of 2011 for embezzlement, and internet rumor has it that his one of his ex-wives is homeless and uses his old guitar case to collect money on the street. All their best numbers, some with really inventive production, before they suddenly turned into an awful prog band. Tracklisting: Peppermint Frappe, Get On Your Knees, Trying So Hard, Free Yourself, Keep on the Right Side, Child, Requiem for a Soul, Pain, Three Two One Ah, I Wonder What Freedom Means, What Can I Do For You, Hello, Magna, Intro Bossa Oito/You're My Sunshines, Say Hi to the Salvation Army, Words of the Lord, Say By to the Salvation Army, She Brought the Blues, Eh Charlatan Donde Esta la Esperanza, Let It Be Me, Extra Extra, Reaching Out, Reaction, Senor Estoy Preparado, Revival, Chaos, Bitch, Honky Tonk Women, Blues Medly, Feeling Allright, Baby You're a Rich Man, Free Yourself, You Made a Mistake.
