Batoh from Ghost finally slips over the neo-psych cliff edge he's been toying with for many albums & lands fully in crazytown, where I for one am most happy to welcome him. Apparently he's spent the previous few years hiring a Japanese company to build him a machine which converts ECG data into audio. Folks with aspergers or panic disorder can learn to meditate by practicing their control of the sounds their own brainwaves emit. Not only is this machine used to make a couple of cuts on this record, but you can buy one & make a record of your own for about $700 through Drag City. In between the zones of oscillating electronics are bells, shakuhachi, & wood blocks that are knockoffs/homages from local religious ritual music. Tracklisting: Kumano Codex 1, Eye Tracking Test, Kumano Codex 2, Kumano Codex 3, Kumano Codex 4, Kumano Codex 5, Aiki No Okami.
