Musique concrete is more than just tape cut ups of course, it's an attempt to catalog the entire world of sound by texture classifications rather than pitch & rhythm. As you might imagine, that's an infinitely large project, & it warped Schaffer's head irreparably. Nearly 30 years after his first acetates of chugging trains, Pierre decided to approach a synthesizer. He makes it drip & bleep according to his sense of gesture, refusing to be limited by what comes naturally to the instrument. A late entry in the well known Prospective 21e Siecle series.
