Maft Sai, who DJs from Tokyo to London & runs the ZudRangMa label & record store in Bangkok, serves up a much needed history lesson about the personalities behind the 70s molam music of northeast Thailand. Theppabutr Satirodchompu started his first band (in the style of the Shadows, of course) in the mid 60s, but then went on to be an Air Force Radio dj, television broadcaster, & label owner. He founded his own recording studio & ran more than 200 bands that played molam, touring the largest of them around the country playing multiple shows per day. Satirodchompu's family became a dynasty all it's own as he delegated the leadership of endless bands to his various brothers, toured with his wife as his lead vocalist, or put up struggling musicians in his offices. Singles that showcase his production style, which added electric keyboards, funky horns & booming bass to the genre's taffy-pull of vowels and mellow, pumping mouth organ. Scrumptious sound quality too.
