There's enough fuzz from Indonesia (and don't forget neighboring Malaysia, Singapore & Dutch Indorock) to wrap the earth several times over, so kudos to this series for sticking to the tuff, short, bristling garage cuts. If you follow this sort of thing at all, there'll be one or two you already know here (like Dara Puspita, the Hooks, or the Swallows). Less obvious but just as beguiling is beautiful Diah Iskandar, whose father was a jazz musician & sparked her career by asking her to sing at a birthday party. She's here with a cover of the Nancy Sinatra/Walker Brothers song 'In My Room'. There's also Benjamin Sueb, who got started rolling his eyes at people on the street when he was a small child in order to earn enough money to send his older brothers to school. He went on to write songs for fellow singer Bing Slamet, & had a comedy movie career.
