Tenor sax player who was the son of Estelle Axton (the 'ax' of Stax) and nephew of Jim Stewart (who provided the 'st'). His band the Mar-Keys was the label house band before the ascendancy of Booker T & the MGs. Early on, Packy played with Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn, etc. But when Packy's uncle Jim started hiring his pals instead of him (because Packy was a notorious drinker), he ran off & waxed 45s for rival studios in Memphis like Ardent, Royal, etc. Perfectly sleazy little party tunes that strike a balance between garage & soul. You can even hear Packy grunting (or maybe hurling) on 'Hung Over'. Tracklisting: Martinis-Holiday Cheer, Martinis-Bullseye, Martinis-Hung Over, Stacy Lane-No Ending, LH & the Memphis Sounds-House Full of Rooms, Pac Keys-Stone Fox, Packers-Hole in the Wall, Martinis-South American Robot, Pac Keys-Dig In, LH & the Memphis Sounds-Out of Control, Martinis-Key Chain, Pac Keys-Hip Pocket, LH & the Memphis Sounds-I'm a Fool, Stacy Lane-No Love Have I, Pac Keys-Greasy Pumpkin, Martinis-I'll Always Love You, Martinis-Late Late Party.
