Fantastic & much overlooked Boston improv quartet from the mid 1990s. Craig Schildhauer on standup bass, Tom Plsek on trombone, Steve Norton on reeds & (pre- Duck That) game calls. Percussion is handled by Lawrence Cook, who plays on a couple of ESP records (Alan Silva's 'Skillfullness' & the Godz 'Third Testament'), and is still playing around town in the Disaster Unit with Greg Kelley, Jason Lescalleet, & Vic Rawlings. Cook can switch mid-moment from carefully-tuned & restrained playing to hard hits that snap like a branch breaking & all the way to brain-melting beating on a cheap electronic drum gadget (which sometimes spits out presets or a computer voice intoning numbers). The band's confident enough to slide into a time signature for a couple of minutes, but much is a balls-out lawnmower wrestling match.
