If you enjoyed Mississippi's Thai Orchestra lp a couple years back (aka Siamese Temple Ball), here's a companion. Traditional Fawn Thai dance music from the northern city of Chiang Mai (which I deduce because the ladies on the cover are standing on grass). 4 of the 5 traditional dances get their due: one for scarves, one for wearing fake fingernails, one for pretending to be a butterfly, and one for being happy. Tempos are fairly stately, but there's a lot of vowel squeezing in the singing, and gorgeous hand percussion. The movements that would go along with these sounds are all about tilting, placing your bare feet at odd angles & graceful hand waving. Tracklisting: Serng Katib Kow, Fon Labe, Fon Ngiew, Fon Marn, Marn Mongkol.
