For whatever reason (rich white government shills forcing everyone else into Maryland mayhaps?), Washington DC is a bizarre musical goldfish bowl that makes genres all it's own & for it's own. Go Go is bascially late Funkadelic bass popping mixed with Sugarhill rap 12 inch breaks. There's also a lot of yelling back & forth between DJs & audiences and three-quarter size conga drums. Notes give a good overview of the vips of the genre (Chuck Brown, Rare Essence, Trouble Funk, etc), but also answer important questions like whether Ian Mackaye liked it.
