Fela's sound mixed the taut lines of highlife, the minor key wank of James Brown workouts, & the long loping tension of a good jazz vamp. Here it's explored by everybody except the man himself. Some Nigerians who discovered similar influences around the same time, like Segun Bucknor, and some contemporary bands who learned about Fela as collectors, like the Daktaris. Most tracks have been released previously, some in 2 or 3 places, but the knotted anxiety and dead funky grooves of the best Afrobeat are here in spades.
