Insanely cheap box that covers later, but still pretty heavy-hitting Dixon titles. There's a 13 year gap between Dixon's 1st solo record and the ensembles he led later (some tapes from the blackout were finally released in 2001), and the break seems to've been due just to his intensely stubborn personality. The super wet sound that he's known for also isn't so apparent during this period, but the musclebound sidemen he chooses to knock heads with make the period unmissable. Alan Silva, Laurence Cook, Peter Kowald, William Parker, Barry Guy, & Tony Oxley are all over the set. Even the late-90s ballads handily show that, despite what years of awful mall music does to a person, jazz can be both tranquil and deadly engrossing at the same time. Tracklisting: Summer Song, Firenze, Summer Song, For Cecil Taylor, Sketch, Summer Song, Summer Song, Dance Piece, Webern, Windswept Winterset, Velvet, Llaattiinnoo Suite, November 1981, Penthesilea, The Second Son, The Sirens, Another Quiet Feeling, Thoughts, Windows, For Nelson and Winnie, Time I, Essence, Transfiguration, Time II, A Song for Claudia's Children, Brothers, Points, Silences for Jack Moore, Vecctor, Son of Sisyphus, Schema VI-88, Fusama Codex, Mandala Per Mandela, Suni E, Negoro Codex, Molti Molti Anna Fa, Moment, Anamorphosis, Viale Nino Bixio 20, Pellucity, Vade Mecum, Twice Upon a Time, Acanthus, Valentina di Sera, Tableau, Ebonite, Reflections, Incunabula, Octette #1, Essay di Larry Neal, Papyrus, The Statesman, Indirizzo Via Cimarosa Dei, Scribbles, Ritratto di Allen Polite, Cinnamon, Quadro Di Henry Dumas, Palimpsest, Steps, Sine qua Non #1, Quadro di NH Pritchard, Silver Joint Jeanne Phillips, Papyrus #2, Pyxis, Squares, Epigraphy, Sine Qua Non #2, Couplet, Four VI 1998, Crawlspace, Suri Mono Louise Wade.
