Auffray was a French DJ at a lava lamp dance club in the late 60s. He was employed by Barclay to start a sublabel that could issue a bunch of prog records- something to compete with all those Virgin imports from the UK. The Egg label went on to do just that. It was mostly managed by a guy who put out a cosmic Star Wars theme album (Fabrizio Cuitad), & released Christian Vander, Asmus Tietchens, Roedelius, Conrad Schnitzler, etc. But the first record on the label was Auffray's goofy near-disco project with his pal Sam. Now highly valued by beat diggers for it's oddly phased & bare drum tracks. Brain-bonking repetition of the same song in 7 versions (which of course makes the whole thing effortlessly danceable), and a totally great throwaway attitude that recalls the Pony, Jerk, Mashed Potato & other such capers. Tracklisting: Popcorn Popcorn, The Popcorn, Popcorn Popcorn, Sweet Popcorn, Salted Popcorn, Sweet Popcorn, Son of Popcorn.
