I have this great cd of 'Halloween Sound Effects' I picked up at the local dollar store along with some toothpaste a couple of years ago. Among hoofbeats made with cups on a plastic table & some poor woman trying to imitate a cat, it has a wonderful baritone voiced gentleman doing fake-scary stage whispers every few minutes, most often intoning "You can't get out!" This Drumm/Prurient cd starts the very same way, and its' punch-n-judy style drama is a perfect antidote to any worries I might've had that this pair were just gonna make the fifty thousandth black metal drone album of the year. A few doom tones, a bit of testosterone angry distorto screaming, but mostly stuff that sounds like some bells, a minimoog, & a Fellini soundtrack run through a shitty rat pedal. There's even a field recording track that's most likely a couple of murderers surreptitiously disposing of a body. Now that's what us record reviewers like to call "cinematic". Tracklisting: First Memory of Pain, On This Slab, There Died Venus, Though the Apple Is Rotten, In Long Rows, Comes Another Brood.
