I've been digging through my magazine collection all week to try & re-read a little Nick Tosches article about Siamese Twins from awhile back. This single couldn't be more timely. Wailing raw r&b flavored gospel by Gladys Yvonne & Mary Yvette McCarther, who just happen to've been born joined at the head. Unable to avoid being the center of attention, by the time the girls were 10 they were on tour with the Harmonizing Four. They played the gospel circuit that ran through the Apollo Theater, toured with the 5 Blind Boys of Alabama. They lived into their early 40s, which is quite old for craniopagus twins, and just long enough to retire from show business too. Their skill varies from track to track, as they seem to've learned how to emote a bit before they actually learned any music. Their mom, however, gives an endearing testimonial on one song that's at least as good as the spoken part in, say, Jan & Dean's 'Dead Man's Curve'.
