Cage had arranged a cover of an Erik Satie solo piano tune for one of Merce Cunningham's dances at the end of the 1960s, and just before the dance was to be performed, he realized that he hadn't gotten permission to use the song. Lawyers couldn't square it, so Cage used his I Ching to randomly replace notes here & there, leaving the structure intact for the dancers but moving the pitches around. One of Cage's more tonal records, but it still preserves his characteristic self-effacing stillness, and has a lot less Satie in it than you might expect. Just goes to show that the great ones never borrow when they can steal.
