Right after recording the infectious hotfoot TX soul single 'Tighten Up', Archie Bell got drafted into Vietnam and was languishing in a hospital with a bullet in his leg while his song was hitting the charts & causing the nation to wish they could see him dance. He recorded many of the tracks for this album while on leave, & got a substitute vocalist (bandmate James Wise) for a couple of cuts. He hooked up with Gamble & Huff the second he got out of the service & went on to do Philly soul instead. Bell still remembers the no less than nine fake Archie Bell & the Drells bands that were performing around the country during the late 60s though. Tracklisting: Tighten Up Pt. 1, Tighten Up Pt. 2, I Don't Wanna Be a Playboy, You're Mine, Knock on Wood, Give Me Time, In the Midnight Hour, When You Left Heartache Began, A Thousand Wonders, A Soldier's Prayer.
