Wistful piano songs bordering on contemptuous/tortured with aching harmonies & shimmering guitars. Chris Bell had recently been edged out & Chilton was raging defiantly. Maybe it's powerpop, maybe it's the ashes of 60s pop, but it's all melancholy & perfect for drunken wallowing. William Eggleston (who's pix generally look like a lush version of a Jandek record) did the cover.
