Jazz session drummer who went to college for English lit, accidentally landed the drum chair under Quincy Jones, helped carve out the funky edge of Jimmy Smith, kept & played in the Johnny Carson band for several years. But Tate always fancied himself a singer, and has been trying to parlay his career into lounge stylings since the mid-60s. The funny part is, Tate sings like a white English teacher- biting off every syllable & nailing it down like a serial killer with a pile of flailing, runaway limbs. Here's his first album as a leader, and he takes hard swings at some Beatles & Bacharach. Tate also sings a few songs in the 'Schoolhouse Rock' series. Tracklisting: The Windmills of Your Mind, And I Love Her, Sack Full of Dreams, Would You Believe, Work Song, A Little At a Time, TNT, Don't Fence Me In, All Around the World.
