Another huge slab of unheard, undiscovered 78s recovered from the depths of the EMI Archive, this time from Kenya & Uganda. Wandering musicians with lyres (now almost extinct in favor of the guitar), accordions, violins. Most weren't full time musicians, but were the people locals would have play at weddings or circumcision rituals. A few songs show a more cosmopolitan flavor, gained from the coastal capital of Mombassa, and you can suddenly hear a slight arabic tinge to the melodies. During WWII, the British provided army regiments from the area (the King's African Rifles), and one of the musical results was that a ton of horns suddenly appeared on the landscape. Calypso, Congolese Rumba, & the guitar all crop up quickly. Tracklisting: Ssekinomu-Wireless, Ali & Party-Enyi Wa Hiari, JP Nyangira-Hongo Owiti, Ochieng-Olieu, Sumoni & Party-Soya, JP Nyangira-John Geko, Owobmbo Wa Agola-Ahenda, Jumbe Ali-Silwezi Tabu, Karanja & Party-Gechande, Shinda Gikombe-Njane Kanini, Chuba Shee-Kuleta Fakira, Badi & Party-Wangu Mliwazi, Florence-Omwoyo Gwa Mukwano, Machakos Party-Meselou, Mbuyi-James Onunga, Ssekinomu-Ekyalema Nakato, John Killion Guara-W Apondo, Were Omito-Aoko, Wasonga Muga-Robert Opio, Simon Ogaya-Joseph Wamidha, Ghatoria Macharia-Choras, J Omwami-Okwara, Mulijo & Party-Owebigere, Andereya Ndombi-Vatali Vano, Bernard Odongu-Obala Jimmy, Akumu Ogara-Mureg, Alfons Otina-Aronga Romba, Oluoch-Ogwel, Black Label Band-Sura Mbaya, El Antari-Akhafu Akhaf Indarat, Reuben Imbinkha-Shindu, Sumoni & Party-Abataka, H Kekemu-Na Yila Na Yela, Francis Ouma-Kilindini Mujimupia, WKA Laboso & Esta-Kitagararan.
