Khorshid's oud-inspired picking on the electric guitar is like liquid gold, running over the ornate melodies of arabic pop songs. He got his start working as part of the backup band for stars like Oum Kalthoum & Abdel Halim Hafez, but soon began issuing his own albums as a leader, with songs written by Fairuz' best songwriters or Mohammed Abdel Wahab. And although this set concentrates on arabic composers (as well as the songs of his Beirut years- kicked off in 72 by an invite to star in & score a movie), he was just as comfortable covering lounge sleaze from the West. His versions of Hot Butter's 'Pop Corn' or 'Hernando's Hideaway' can still fill a club floor. Khorshid was able to rule the cosmopolitan Beirut supper clubs with nothing but his guitar & a really long cord, until female fans dropped themselves at his feet. It's also said that he once played a show for mental patients just like the Cramps. Thumping bass, snakey melodies and that amazing metrical glide make this an instant must have.
