Pousseur is a Belgian professor who attended the famed dodecaphonic Darmstadt summer school lectures, along with Luigi Nono, Pierre Boulez, Bruno Maderna, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Franco Evangelisti, Luciano Berio, etc. Not all of Pousseur's work is strictly serial, and the nominal focus of this collection is his microtonal music, but there's quite a bit of serialism as well. Serialist pieces tend to have a datedness, which though comfortably nostalgic, usually feels like the part of a radio soap opera where the heroine breaks up with her boyfriend or gets really bad news. The good news is that Pousseur is skilled enough that his pieces flutter like birds held in your hand, & the textures allow juicy electronics to chop through the woodwinds, as though the radio frequencies have gotten inside the soap opera. Tracklisting: Prospection, Racine Dix Neuvieme De Huit Quarts, At Moonlight Downland's Shadow Passes Along Ginkaku Ji, Ex Dei In Machinam Memoria, Figurines Enlacees.
