St. Louis free jazz band started by Oliver Lake & Lester Bowie's little brother Joseph. Even though they were working with theater troupes & had landed their own warehouse space as a gift from a grant, BAG weren't finding as much work as the AACM & Art Ensemble up north. Lester advised them to try their luck in Paris, and they were bowled over by the appreciative audiences there. While it starts off with Lake in a fairly loft-jazz mood, there's no bass to hold him down. Charles Bobo Shaw sounds like he's playing wack-a-mole with a bunch of woodblocks, and there are some particularly besmudged splats as things go along. Tracklisting: Echos, Something To Play On, Re Cre A Tion, OLCSJBFLBC Bag.
