There's no more perfect illustration of site-specific composition than Lucier's renowned hall-of-mirrors tape piece. He recorded himself making a little speech, which described the recording process. He then played back the recording, and recorded the sound of the playback on a second tape recorder. And then he played back the second tape recorder and recorded the results onto the first. And so on until the speech itself became wiped from the tape, overlaid with nothing but the pulsing, heaving harmonic frequencies of the room.
