Mateo is something like the Syd Barrett or Skip Spence of Uruguay. 4 years since his 'Bien Se Lame', and most of the local musicians had left the country or stopped playing. The government was invasive & everywhere, & everyone was broke. Most musicians would've degenerated into loud anthemic posturing, prog noodles, or back to basics oldies. But with his soft, high voice, that sort of thing's not for Mateo. Instead, he gets together with a young bongo player (who played with Pajaro Canzani from Los Jaivas, Mike Doglitotti, etc) and starts working up careful, complex arrangements on a very limited palette of mostly acoustic instruments. Sometimes funky & sometimes intimate, Mateo's rich & fragile melodies swoop & dart as gracefully as little birds. Tracklisting: Dulce Brillo, Canto a Los Soles, Amigo Lindo Del Alma, Y Hoy Te Vi, Palomas, Un Canto Para Mama, El Blues Para El Bien Mio, Cancion Para Renacer, Vox de Diamantes, Cancion Para El Tamorero.
