Thornton started out as a hard bopper under Donald Byrd & became one of the only free jazz trombonists. He appears on ESP lps led by Marzette Watts & Sunny Murray, as well as Sun Ra's 'Art Forms of Dimensions Tomorrow'. Thornton worked part time as a notary to finance the release of this record, & it took him 2 years to save up the money. Recorded the day after Coltrane's funeral, with the first vinyl appearance of post-Coltraner Joe McPhee. Jimmy Garrison (bass), Joe McPhee (trumpet), Sonny King (alto), Karl Berger (vibes), Don Moore (bass), Harold Avent (drums), Tyrone Crabb (bass). 2 bonus tracks discovered by Joe McPhee.
