The Hendrix-fried griot jams & somnolent group syncopation played here began as Gaddafi training camp songs in the mid-80s (which spawned a band called 'Build the Country', as well as the famed Tinariwen). Marginalized between the intersection of Mali, Niger & Algeria's respective governments, & sometimes forced into famine despite the continued fuctioning of the area's numerous uranium mines, the Tuareg have been involved in guerilla fighting sporadically for many years. In 2010, rising tensions resulted in the death of one of Inerane's guitarists, Adi Mohamed. As a result, guitarist Koudede (who already tours France under his own name & whose style is closer to the doink & twang of John Lee Hooker) was recruited for this recording. Reclaimed generators & exigent circumstances being the rule, improvising with what's handy proved no problem for Inerane's lead guitarist Bibi Ahmed.
