Yuasa founded an expirimental music group with Toru Takemitsu at the turn of the 50s, and by the time of these recordings was a major figure who had been doing tape pieces exclusively for about ten years. Everything here was created to go along with exhibits at Expo 70 (where you'll remember, Matsuo Ohno's singing animal cut ups also debuted). So it's sort of a cross between musique concrete & the sound made by some toy you'd pick up at Spencer's Gifts. Sometimes Yuasa salvaged material from older works, making (for example) sliding whistles for a projection of color squares. For a piece with large dolls, he used cut ups of people speaking (but only the connective words & prepositions) in various languages.
