Trebly 12 string with a UK singer who shows some Bert Jansch/Davey Graham influence in his playing. More memorably though, he sways wildly between throaty hollers, thick falsetto swoops, purple-prose lyrics about sex, and flat out yelling (especially on, go ahead & chuckle now, 'Labour Pains'). A femme voice shows up about halfway through, and things only get wilder from there on. Not inappropriate to compare the gent to Tim Buckley, as he does mix & match jazzy rhythmic figures with odd vocal flourishes. Don't let any hypsters tell you that it's downer folk though, and the puritanical in the title is misleading too- as it's almost embarrasingly flamboyant. Fans of Mark Tucker will be into this one. Tracklisting: Odes, Odes, Odes, Odes, Odes, Labour Pains.
