First release from this highly esteemed blog. Early recording by a very popular Wassoulou singer who grew up in southern Mali near the border of the Ivory Coast. She won a government sponsored singing contest in 1980 & her bright voice is actually throatier & more relaxed here than it would be in her later career. Although the 80s aren't exactly afrobeat territory, glossy echo that might be expected (esp on vocals) is teensy & very subtle. The backing band has a unique clinking texture & is intensely hypnotic. Tracklisting: Ko Ro Dia, Dan Te Dinye La, Danaya, Kungo Sogoni.
