On this first album, Buckley is still only 19 years old, but his voice is already distinctive, plopping down like a fat lady on the bus & sounding closer to Grace Slick than anybody from Greenwich Village. Songs are still pretty straightforward (compared to 'Lorca' or 'Starsailor'), but he's already running rings around the folk-pop sound of the time. Jack Nitzsche's strings & Van Dyke Park's celesta sweeten the arrangements immeasurably, and whoever chose the peculiar dollop of echo for Buckley's voice did the world a service. Mono and stereo versions on the first disc. 2nd disc is all previously unreleased demos, and about half are just Buckley with an acoustic, hanging out with a pal (who likes heavyhanded poetry) & laughing to each other, singing almost to himself.
