For the Numero label, this one's gotta be something of a full circle project, as it comes right from their backyard. Longtime Chicago radio DJ Richard Pegue was on the air for nearly 40 years, can still be heard in re-runs, wrote several jingles for local businesses, & even has a street named after him. But few people know that in the early 70s he also wrote songs and produced bands, running a couple of small labels to release his efforts. After Pegue passed away, an archive of these singles was discovered among 25k albums in his basement. Satin-silky, impeccably recorded soul that runs the gamut from ethereal doowopping girls to tight rhythm guitar work to plush Jackson 5 harmonies. Tracklisting: Jerry Townes-Just Say the Word, Little Ben & the Cheers-Never More, Voices-Fall in Love, Jerry Townes-You Are My Sunshine, Matta Baby-Do the Pearl Girl, Norvells-Why Do You Want to Make Me Sad, Voices-Forever Is a Long Long Time, Little Ben & the Cheers-Settle Down, Jerry Townes-Little Old Lovemaker Me, Little Ben & the Cheers-I'm Gonna Get Even With You, Norvells-Without You, Jerry Townes-Never More, Extensions-This Love of Mine, Halleluiah Chorus-I've Got to Find a Way, South Shore Commission-Shadows, Richard Terry & Company-Instrumental #1, Joyce Williams-The First Thing I Do in the Morning, South Shore Commission-You Got Me Hummin, Brothers & Sisters-Don't Let Em Tell You, Sidney Pinchback-This Is the Woman, South Suburban Electric Strings-Sign of the Zodiac, Sidney Barnes-The Ember Song.
