Surf movie that was well-shot but came out a few years too late to be fashionable. Davie Allan is indeed on guitar, but he's playing echo-ed up trebly stuff rather than fuzz. Written by Mike Curb, who wrote 'You Meet the Nicest People on a Honda', and later went on to be the Lieutenant Governor of California. At the time, Curb was the youngest A&R man ever, and had recently dumped the Velvets & Zappa from MGM for being pro-drugs, which I'm sure made for some cracks about this album's tagline, 'introducing the Back-Wash Rhythm Band'. Some vocals & some instros, and although it's a little ballad heavy overall, the studio's best hired guns are clearly on hand & the songs are carefully arranged & quite lush. Tracklisting: the Golden Breed, Hawaiian Circus, In the Curl, What Turns You On, Golden Time, Coral Below, What Turns You On, High Rise, Over the Falls, Waimea Bay, Surfer Paradise, The Golden Breed.
