South Korean 70s folk-pop. Guitarist Shin Jung Hyun had been in bands since the late 50s, but scored a huge hit out of nowhere when he wrote & arranged for the Pearl Sisters (who asked him to do something after hearing him cover 'Somebody to Love'). Up & coming singers began to beg him to produce & write records for them too. He not only recorded songs for his proteges, but chose their outfits, coached them on phrasing, and sometimes even took the photos for the covers of their records. His star pupil was high school student Kim, and her specialty was western-influenced rock. Not a fuzz monster, but Kim does have a riveting voice. She's at her best being powerful on bummer ballads, where Hyun & his band get to vamp on & on with their somewhat funky drum backbeats. Meantime she holds still & lets the tension build up before hitting some croon that hangs on like air pollution. Tracklisting: Haenim, Wind, Spring, Unknowingly, Blow Spring Breeze, Your Dream, Beautiful Rivers, Lonely Heart, It's Raining, Ganadaramabasa.
