Expertly named compilation, because in Spain, where it was made, they luuuuuv mid 1960s R&B with dudes who belt it like Tom Jones over superfast hi-hat work. There's not quite a name for the little subgenre, but mod-soul, or matching chest hair with silk pants, gives you a purty good idea. Bands are from all over the map: France, Brooklyn, Barcelona, Tokyo, etc. And some of them come from the soul side of things, the freakbeat side of things, the fuzz side of things, or are just crooners trying to get with the kids. But every track has insanely tight breakbeats, organ oozing out everywhere, and is all about sockin' it to the rafters. Some unforgettable cuts, like the one by the guy with a heavy Spanish accent pretending to be Superman ('Superman'), or the Rosemary Clooney standard retooled as an Electric Prunes song ('Come On a My House'). Tracklisting: Gilbert Safrani-Les Gens S'en Vont Dans le Ciel, Mochi-Snob, Larry Wald-Superman, I Nuovi Angeli-Una Caverna, Unidades-Singing and Singing, Laurel Canyon-Stand and Be Counted, Les Dauphins-Serrons Nous La Mains, Bluebeards-Come On a My House, Bruno Lomas-Otra Vez en La Calle, Golden Boys-O Feiticeiro, Carlo Pavone-Viva La Liberta, Kin Vassy-Gamblin Man, Jose Salcy-Les Filles Chats, Los Roberts-No Soy Como Todos Imaginan, Springwell-Gypsy Queen, Samurai-Fresh Hot Breeze of Summer.
