A great deal of the mystery & discomfort you get while watching this underground perennial flick stems from the contrast between the tension onscreen & this happily pagan music with traditional folk instrumentation. Some songs are merely evocative of old ones & some are actually old ('Gently Johnny' is from the 12th century), but there's also some wobbly tuba waltzes & high voiced chants (I'd guess it was inspired by the music from 'Rosemary's Baby'). Flutes, bagpipes, recorders, & many of the musicians appear in the actual film, right alongside Christopher Lee & Britt Ekland. Tracklisting: Corn Rigs, The Landlord's Daugheter, Gently Johnny, Maypole, Fire Leap, The Tinker of Rye, Willow's Song, Procession, Chop Chop, Lullaby, Festival/Mirie It Is/Summer Is a Cumen In, Opening Music/Loving Couples/Ruined Church, The Masks/Hobby Horse, Searching for Rowan, Appointment With the Wicker Man, Sunset.
