Fever-ridden blues-inflected banjo & appalachian muder ballads that could only be upstaged by Boggs' moonshine-burned frog croak of a voice. Mike Seeger, inspired by the inclusion of not one but two songs on the Harry Smith box, rediscovered Boggs in rural Virginia & quickly got him booked on folk festival bills. By chance, Boggs had been playing recently, and his style, while less harrowing than it had been in the late 20s, was intact. Boggs soon began recording again, and here's the 1st of 3 lps he did for the wonderful Folkways label. Tracklisting: Down South Blues, Country Blues, Pretty Polly, Coal Creek March, My Old Horse Died, Wild Bill Jones, Rowan County Crew, New Prisoner's Song, Oh Death, Prodigal Son, Mother's Advice, Drunkard's Lone Child, Bright Sunny South, Mistreated Mama Blues, Harvey Logan.
