1st comeback album, issued during the initial flush of Walker's post-career in the US. Though the album certainly has antecedents in 83's 'Climate of Hunter', there's a pretty clear break for a contemporary sense of editing and a most Joycean use of lyrics. My pet theory for consistency across his discography goes like this: Walker learned from working at Gold Star that pop music is like an ever-growing balloon. Bigger is always better. Therefore the recipe for making an anti-pop album is to take that bigger into ever newer & ever more arch arenas. Bolivian politics, the most gigantic organ ever built, Ligeti ripoffs on strings, Pier Paolo Pasolini all guest. Tracklisting: Farmer in the City, The Cockfighter, Bouncer See Bouncer, Manhattan, Face on Breast, Bolivia, Patriot, Tilt, Rosary.
