The slogan goes "culture is more efficient than machine guns". And if it ain't the truth, as Conkary's state-funded orchestras & record label (Syliphone) once took over the dance clubs of the entire African continent just as easily as they've taken over the minds of record collectors in the last several years. Some of the bands here are well known to fans of West African 70s (Bembeya Jazz National, Keletigui & ses Tambourinis) & others are more obscure. But thanks to Sekou Toure's programs, there were tons of electric organs, jobs & solid body guitars to go around. Every band tried to be more elegant, more urbane & have more overlapping horn parts than the last. Tracklisting: Camayenne Sofa-Kononin, Horoya Band National-Artistes, Bembeya Jazz National-Kana Sarakabo, Super Boiro Band-Kha Mu Lan Ma, Sory Kandia Kouyate-Minawa, Pivi et Les Balladins-Samba, Horoya Band National-Kaninba, Kaloum Star-Maliba, Tele Jazz de Teleme-Sensenko, 22 Band Kankan-Deny, Horoya Band National-Daba, Sory Kandia Kouyate et Keletigui-Conkary, Sory Kandia Kouyate et Keletigui-Nazoki, Camayenne Sofa-Kulumba, Keletigui et ses Tambourinis-Bakary Dian, Sorsomet Rythme-En Tout Cas, Horoya Band National-Apollo, Le Nimba Jazz de Nzerekore-Babaniko, Super Boiro Band-Were Were, Horoya Band National-Paya Paya, Camayenne Sofa-Samba Mana, Bafing Jazz Mamou-Toubaka, Super Boiro Band-Darinole, Syli Authentic-Senero, 22 Band Kankan-Mankan.
