Ian Nagoski runs the Baltimore record store the True Vine, curates collections for the Dust to Digital label, and uses this series to share some of his personal musical ephiphanies in the form of ethnic 78s of yesteryear, selected over 20 odd years of collecting both in far and near locales. Long lost treasures from the exotic jungles, villages and deserts around the globe, as well as a few chestnuts that were merely buried in America's backyard. Info is sometimes scant (though as complete as possible), but the heavenly sounds of this series can transport you everyplace you need to go. This volume collects a variety of traditional folk baubles from across Southeast Asia. Ian says: recordings by the famed Phillipine composer and musicologist Jose Maceda as well as rare recording of the macabre self-mortification drama, the Javanese Debus, war-era outdoor recordings by Vietnames tribal musicians, a beautiful vocal duet from the oppressed Thai Karen ethnic group and gorgeous and rarely-heard classical music from Borneo. Tracklisting: Central Vietnam-Gong Concert, Central Vietnam-Xylophone Music, Central Vietnam-Gong Air, Annemite Mountains Southern Laos-Ritual Music, Karen Tribe Thailand-Let's Marry, Balbalan Northern Phillipines-Gangsa Toayya; Gangsa Pattung, Balbalan Northern Phillipines-Patatag, Balbalan Northern Phillipines-Tongatong, Walantaka Village Java-Debus, Brunei Borneo-Sergasen (Ghost Dance); Gerasen (Funeral Dance), Brunei Borneo-Silat (Warrior Dance), Brunei Borneo-Sendang; Balait, Brunei Borneo-Prajurit Tanah Air.
