Greasy Detroit hippie rawk, often with programmatic White Panther party lyrics. The MC5 and their manager/White Panther leader John Sinclair had parted ways about the time that Sinclair got tossed into prison (for a 3rd-time-in-a-row drug bust). Sinclair was given a then-shocking 10 year sentence (these days it would just be a tough break). The junior varsity band however, continued to tow the local line. Up wrote a song about Sinclair to be released on a promotional 45 & given away at a benefit concert (Alan Ginsberg read a poem on the flip & John Lennon appeared at the rally). Sinclair was granted bail a few days afterwards, and it was attributed to a new state bill instead of the lousy publicity. As the politics faded, the band did as well & they broke up in 73. The music hangs tough, if not quite as slammin' as the MC5. DVD footage is color, low-key concert footage with the unmatched sound from the cd tacked on. Comes with postcard-sized poster reprints.
