The movie mostly went unseen at the time, but this soundtrack is the source (not to mention the illustration) of the now-ubiquitous phrase/idea of two turntables and a microphone. Before filmmaking began, Fab 5 Freddy (who was also in 'Downtown 81') & the guitarist from Blondie (Chris Stein) went into a studio & made backing tracks. And the film was mostly generated by giving the tracks to a variety of MCs & turntable scratchers over the course of a night at a club (in the crap South Bronx neighborhood, far from the downtown art population). Raw, but not as minimal as most early hip hop (A/B this with a Whodini record sometime), and obviously live. Tracklisting: Grand Master Caz & Chris Stein-Wild Style Theme Rap 1, Chief Rocker Busy Bee vs Lil Rodney Cee with DJ Grand Wizard Theodore-MC Battle, Cold Crush Bros vs Fantastic Freaks-Basketball Throwdown, Various-Fantastic Freaks at the Dixie, Grand Wizard Theodore & Kevie Kev Rockwell-Military Cut Scratch Mix, Various-Cold Crush Bros at the Dixie, Double Trouble/Rodney Cee/KK Rockwell-Stoop Rap, Rodney Cee/KK Rockwell/DJ Stevie Steve-Double Trouble at the Ampitheatre, Grand Master Caz & Chris Stein-Wild Style Subway Rap 2, Dj AJ at the Ampitheatre-The Chief Rocker Busy Bee, Grand Wizard Theodore & Kevie Kev Rockwell-Gangbusters Scratch Mix, Rammellzee/Shock Dell/Grand Mixer DST-At the Ampitheatre.
