Courtesy of a big-hearted local collector named Matt, here's some copies of a much-coveted Molam tape that's uptempo & quite funky. Sabaithong (aka Sabaithong Powpuri, Sabaitong Paopooree, Phaopuri, etc) is known to, well a few anyway, as the cover model for Sublime Frequencies' first Molam compilation circa 2005. She has at least a couple of different full length lps out there. The track titles mention a couple of the local subgenres of Molam, including Glawn songs (the Laotian limericks that originally gave the form it's lyrics), & Kon (a teasing boy-girl duet like Johnny Cash/June Carter's 'Jackson'), and some others that I couldn't quite figure out. Currently the lp version of this tape is available online elsewhere for around $200. Although that's considerably overpriced, I think that by comparison, a tape you can toss in a boombox on the beach for a fiver is a pretty good deal. Originally on the Butterfly/Pin-Kaen records.
